The Fitzroy Bridges project is part of TMR’s ongoing commitment and program to replace timber bridges of poor condition, structural integrity, and condition to improve commuter safety along State-Controlled Roads.
This project included the replacement of three bridges:
– Leichhardt Highway Banana Creek Bridge Replacement
– Burnett Highway Callide Creek Bridge Widening
– Dawson Highway Roundstone Creek Bridge Replacement
The benefits of this program and the replacements of the timber bridges included
– Improved structural integrity of the bridges with new and wider concrete structures.
– Provide access for higher mass limit (HML) vehicles and improve freight connectivity.
– A fit-for-purpose structure to accommodate expected growth in freight traffic and support economic productivity.
– A consistent driving environment by matching the approach road height with the bridge height.
– Improved road geometry and alignment to current standards.
– Reduced bridge maintenance and limited additional closures and/or traffic restrictions.
– Improved flood immunity (fewer and less frequent road closures).
