Construction and Infrastructure – Bridge Replacement
The Poor Man’s Gully Bridge is located on the Burnett Highway approximately 22km south of Biloela. The existing bridge was a dilapidated single span timber structure which was in disrepair.
The bridge was originally designed as a cast in-situ structure however, due to funding constraints was developed into a full precast single span structure with prestressed concrete piles, headstocks with integrated full depth abutment retaining wall and wing walls to below the bottom of the bed level and precast concrete deck units.
The project was a great success. By developing and implementing innovative solutions and challenging the norm, the project was delivered on time and cost to a great level of quality. The project went on to win the annual RoadTek award for the category of project management ($2 million to $5 million) and its innovative approach and design concept has been used for other structure replacement projects of similar scope.
Hartecs Group provided design and constructability advice, project estimation and scheduling, project management and delivery.
